Star Trek The Tour
Star Trek The Tour is dedicated to the over forty years of imagination, artistry and meticulous craftsmanship that together have made the Star Treklegacy the most enduring television franchise in history. It is the largest collection of sets, costumes, priceless museum pieces and props ever put on public display. The artifacts and exhibition information comes from all five Star Trek television series and ten Star Trek feature films. Together these components offer fans and novices alike, an unprecedented encounter with the phenomenon that is Star Trek. Bob served as Producer and Executive in charge of production.
The exhibition is “A History of the Future.” The nine major exhibit areas, plus a variety of displays, interactive kiosks, rare photo opportunities and unique adventures offer a comprehensive insider’s look at Star Trek in all its forms. This is as close as you have ever been to entering “the final frontier!”
The North American debut was at the Queen Mary Dome in Long Beach, CA on January 18, 2008.
Highlights include:
- Full-motion simulator rides through a new Star Trek adventure.
- A state-of-the-art, immersive multimedia theatre-in-the-round. Computer-generated images and special effects put visitors in the middle of a Star Trek experience.
- Sitting on a full-size Enterprise bridge from the original TV series and guest’s having their photo taken and superimposed with an image of the original cast – including Spock, McCoy and Scotty.
- Detailed recreations of original sets from Star Trek: The Next Generation®, including Captain Picard’s quarters, Dr. Crusher’s sick bay, the transporter room and the majestic NCC-1701-D Bridge.
- The 50,000 square foot exhibition is equal in size to nearly two football fields filled with 250 tons of priceless Star Trek sets, original props, costumes, etc. Star Trek The Tour brings together some of Hollywood’s finest craftsmen and artists who created and shaped the signature look and image of Star Trek over the years, including production designer Herman Zimmerman, costume designer Robert Blackman, make-up artist Michael Westmore and visual effects creator Dan Curry. All of these original Star Trek artists lent their talents to Star Trek The Tour to provide visitors with an authentic, behind-the-scenes view.
- Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry’s son, Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, provides a rare insider’s look at what it took to make his father’s vision into reality as he narrates a tribute to the man who started it all.
